Rainton ConstructionNet Zero Asphalt
Our pioneering net zero asphalt, developed in partnership with Durham County Council and Low Carbon Materials (LCM), significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. It incorporates recycled materials and a carbon-negative aggregate, paving the way to a more sustainable future. The pilot scheme at Elvet Hill Road accounted for 12,000 kg of CO₂e savings. This initiative has been recognised across the industry, featured on ITV News, won a County Durham Environment Award, and received Royal recognition from HRH Prince William during a visit to LCM’s headquarters.
In 2024/25, we completed six schemes, resulting in a reduction of 65,436 kg of carbon emissions. To date, this innovation has prevented an estimated 316,008 kg of CO₂e from entering the atmosphere, equivalent to a patrol car driving nearly 2 million kilometres.
