CareersThere are a wide range of job opportunities available within MGL Group and the construction industry, we are committed to educating, training, and developing the next generation of employees and inspiring younger people. Our work placements provide an opportunity for students to get a feel for the construction sector and see what it’s like to work in our exciting industry. This is crucial to addressing the sector’s skills shortage and futureproofing our workforce.
We are developing and delivering bespoke and meaningful engagement programmes to complement our existing employment schemes including careers advice, site visits, internships and apprenticeship opportunities. Through our partnership with local schools we deliver careers guidance to positively shape career aspirations whilst developing skill sets essential for working in the industry. We also work in partnership with Derwentside College to deliver our Construction Academy as well as providing work experience across our sites to help people gain provide practical hands-on experience needed to improve employability skills.
On the job training provides an understanding of the workplace and our aim is to inspire young people to progress a career in construction. Work placements benefit the candidate by providing exposure to working in a live environment whilst helping us to identify talent and futureproof our workforce.
During his week-long placement Calvin had the opportunity to shadow various departments to learn more about the business and the opportunities we can offer. A big thank you to everyone who made it a meaningful and enjoyable experience and well done to Calvin for showing commitment and enthusiasm throughout.
Adam is currently studying Civil Engineering at Northumbria University and has taken a year out to gain valuable work experience with our Site Engineers before returning to finish his final year. This undergraduate placement is a fantastic opportunity to gain skills, knowledge and professional development. We are looking forward to supporting Adam on his learning journey.
As part of his work experience, Jordan carried out a variety of labouring tasks and learned about site processes and protocols. He showed enthusiasm and commitment, expressing an interest in progressing his career. We have offered him a full-time position and we are looking at a variety of apprenticeship options to further develop his skills and build his career with us!
Jack shadowed our site engineers and helped with setting out and quality control. Feedback was positive, he was hard working and showed a keen interest in all the tasks he was involved with. Work experience was an opportunity to understand more about the industry and he was interested in progressing his career in construction.
