In collaboration with Low Carbon Materials (LCM) and Durham County Council, MGL Group has successfully implemented County Durham's first net zero road surfacing project at Elvet Hill Road. By utilising carbon-negative aggregate and locally sourced recycled materials, we've demonstrated our commitment to a circular economy and reducing our environmental footprint.
One of the most significant factors impacting our carbon footprint is the asphalt materials required for the surfacing works we undertake. Adopting a circular economy approach helps us to work towards net zero.
Our Plastipave products provide a long-term, cost-effective, and sustainable asphalt solution for end-of-use plastic and tyre waste. We have used Plastipave in 188 road schemes across the region for two Local Authorities in 2021, resulting in a carbon saving of over 534 tonnes.
