Carbon Footprint and Net Zero

Reshaping the built environment around us, ensuring a truly sustainable future

As a business we demonstrate strong environmental performance and we strive to further reduce our energy use both directly, from the use of plant, equipment, vehicles, fuel use in the manufacturing process and indirectly, from materials and waste. We have implemented a wide range of carbon reduction initiatives, including our carbon reducation plan, to reduce the Group’s environmental impact and carbon footprint. This has resulted in a significant reduction in our carbon intensity.

Innovation is at the core of what we do, and we are continually looking for new ways to meet the challenges of the future. We can achieve long-term value by engaging with the local community and we are committed to supporting the decarbonisation of both our clients and supply chain – with significant focus on reducing the embodied carbon of a project’s whole life carbon. By challenging the norm and working together, we can help to combat climate change make a positive contribution to the world we live and work in.

Award winning initiatives

We have developed a carbon offset scheme to balance out the carbon footprint of our projects, this is in addition to the BREEAM requirements. We offset 100% of our scope of works by soaking up CO₂ through verified carbon reduction projects and planting trees in the region.

In recognition of our commitment to sustainable practices we were recently awarded Environmental Company of the Year at the CECA NE Awards 2021.

One of the most significant factors impacting our carbon footprint is the asphalt materials required for the surfacing works we undertake. Adopting a circular economy approach helps us to work towards net zero.

Our Plastipave products provide a long-term, cost-effective, and sustainable asphalt solution for end-of-use plastic and tyre waste. We have used Plastipave in 188 road schemes across the region for two Local Authorities in 2021, resulting in a carbon saving of over 534 tonnes.
