MGL Foundation Trust donates to RNLI

MGL Foundation Trust has donated to the RNLI following a fundraising effort inspired by a dramatic sea rescue on the Northumberland coast earlier this year.

The story began when MGL Earthworks Operator Johnny Dane spotted an overturned canoe in the sea while working near the coastline. Recognising that someone could be in danger, Johnny acted quickly and raised the alarm, helping to trigger an RNLI rescue operation.

The canoeist, Paul Brown, was safely rescued thanks to the swift response of the RNLI volunteers who attended the incident. Wanting to give something back in recognition of the charity’s efforts, Paul and his family joined forces with Johnny to raise funds for the RNLI and support the vital service it provides to communities across the UK.

To help raise money, participants completed a sponsored walk between RNLI stations in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and Tynemouth. The fundraising effort received fantastic support from colleagues working on site, as well as generous donations from QTS Data Centers. The total raised was then matched by the MGL Foundation Trust, helping to maximise the impact of the fundraising campaign and increase the final donation made to the RNLI.

Representatives from MGL Group recently met with the RNLI to hand over the donation and learn more about the charity’s work. The funds will help support crew training, water safety education and the continued operation of the RNLI’s life-saving services. The RNLI plays a critical role in keeping people safe around the UK’s coastline, responding to emergencies at sea and providing essential safety advice to help prevent incidents from occurring.
