History

A company built on a strong and successful foundation

MGL Group was founded by Alan and Sheila Davison in 1971. From humble beginnings, the company operated out of a second-hand caravan which was the office, welfare facilities and equipment store and carried out small civil engineering projects for national housebuilders, the coal board, and shipyards.

Fast forward over fifty years, we remain a proud family business and we are one of the region’s most successful construction and demolition companies with a comprehensive range of business units. Through partnership agreements and places on major frameworks, our core services a delivered by a dedicated team of over 450 passionate people; asbestos removal, demolition, earthworks, civil engineering, road surfacing, asphalt production, quarrying and property development.

Operating from our head office in Durham with a quarry in Longhoughton and a 12-acre mixed-use site at Newburn incorporating recycling, workshop and asphalt production facilities, plus a second asphalt site in Barton, we are still driven by our founding ethos of high-quality workmanship and developing strong partnerships.

Adapting to customer and sector needs

Continued investment in equipment, plant and our people has allowed us to continually adapt to meet the changing market and customer needs, while retaining the core morals and ethics which are the foundations of our business.
