MGL Group Holds a Safety Shutdown to Celebrate Global Safety Week

The Early May Bank Holiday is a weekend most people look forward to all year, and for MGL Group, this one began with a positive focus on what matters most. Friday, 1st May marked the conclusion of Global Safety Week, making this an ideal day for a safety celebration. With the long weekend ahead, the mood across the business was upbeat as teams came together to learn, share, and reflect on how we can all stay safe at work.

The safety shutdown was taking place at one of our biggest project sites, and at 1pm, the tools were put down for the day, and the safety shutdown kicked off. Under a rare instance of blue skies and bright sunshine, the MGL workforce, consisting of contract managers, site managers, and ground operators, were welcomed by a range of interactive stands hosted by key partners that support a wide range of MGL Group projects.

On-site, colleagues had the opportunity to engage with Hilti, Milwaukee, Groundforce, PQS, Impact Workwear, Northumberland Council (Occupational Health), Thompsons 365, and Lynch Plant, who brought along their immersive VR truck experience.

These sessions gave everyone the opportunity to speak directly with suppliers, ask questions, see new equipment in person, and share best practices in a practical, hands‑on environment.

The Greedy Goose Catering stand satisfied the hungry workforce and added to the site’s positive atmosphere. To cap off the afternoon, MGL Group co-CEO Dave Elliot delivered a speech on the importance of safety first while being on site.

Events like this showcase MGL Group’s commitment to keeping everyone on-site safe, teamwork, and continuous improvement of its staff. This safety shutdown demonstrates that important learning can take place in an environment that is both informative and enjoyable for everyone involved.
