MGL Group Continues Support for Cheesy Waffles Project with New Allotment

MGL Group has continued its long‑standing support of the Cheesy Waffles Project by delivering a brand‑new allotment space for the charity’s exclusive use at a local site in Durham.

The Cheesy Waffles Project secured a local allotment plot that had previously been unused and in need of improvement. After clearing the patch, MGL Group’s team began works, including providing flagstone for footpaths, installation of lockable gates, and the construction of a concrete base for a summerhouse to be installed.

The allotment redevelopment was delivered in partnership with MKM’s Durham branch and timber and builders’ merchant Joseph Parr Ltd. MKM Durham supplied paving stones, chippings, sand, weed membrane and topsoil, whilst Joseph Parr Ltd supplied treated timber sleepers. Both companies generously provided their materials at no cost.

MGL Social Value Director Gillian Reader, alongside MKM Durham Branch Director Steven Bartle, visited the allotment site to see the progress made by the construction team. Project Manager of The Cheesy Waffles Project, Erika Denholm, attended alongside charity beneficiaries who enjoyed the new allotment for the first time.

Gillian Reader said, “We’re delighted to be able to continue our partnership with the Cheesy Waffle Project. Having previously supported and sponsored day trips, this new allotment provides a permanent activity for the charity’s beneficiaries.”

Steven Bartle said, “ MKM Durham is delighted to help this fantastic charity, which reinforces our commitment to helping community projects in the area, whilst also collaborating with our local business partner MGL Group.”

The Cheesy Waffle Project is a Durham‑based charity supporting children, young people, and adults with additional needs through inclusive activities that promote confidence, independence, and social connection. The allotment will provide a therapeutic outdoor experience and an excellent opportunity for children and young people to connect with nature while developing skills in gardening and teamwork.
