MGL Group Lights Up Durham at Lumiere 2025

After 16 years and nine editions, more than 120,000 visitors flocked to Durham to experience the magic of Lumiere before the lights dimmed for the last time. MGL Group was proud to sponsor the Volunteers’ Scheme, helping bring the UK’s largest light art biennial to life. This spectacular event brings creativity and community spirit, transforming the city into a glowing canvas across three unforgettable nights.

The festival lived up to its reputation, blending thrilling large-scale installations with moments of intimacy and reflection. For Artichoke, the creative force behind Lumiere and the trademark owner, this marked the final Lumiere event they will produce in Durham.

This year’s edition featured 30 stunning artworks by artists from 11 countries, turning streets and public spaces into a vibrant celebration of light and innovation. With an expected £10 million economic impact, Lumiere continues to demonstrate its cultural and economic significance to the region.

As one of 116 local sponsors, MGL Group is proud to have played a role in making this extraordinary event possible. Beyond the dazzling displays, Lumiere engaged 550 local people through its Learning & Participation programme, inspiring creativity and fostering skills that will benefit communities long after the lights fade.

Supporting Lumiere reflects our commitment to culture, collaboration, and community. Together, we’ve helped to shine a light on the North East, both literally and figuratively.
