Brownfield & Contaminated Land

Our vast experience in the delivery of chemically and geotechnically complex brownfield sites uses in-situ or ex-situ treatment options, modification, encapsulation and many other techniques to resolve legacy brownfield matters.

Early involvement is critical to compiling accurate, legislatively compliant and commercially viable remediation strategies. We encourage open, honest and transparent discussions around the commercial impacts of ground-risk issues.

Onsite Materials Management

Utilising CL:AIRE DoW CoP Material Management Plans we recover, re-use and recycle more material on brownfield sites and avoid offsite disposal wherever possible. This can include screening, crushing, aeration, stabilisation/modification, chemical treatment, bio-remediation.

Off-site Material Disposal

Our various business units provide a wealth of disposal outlets, meaning MGL Group can often provide highly competitive rates for offsite disposal of bulk surplus materials.

The re-use and recycling of clean earthworks materials, such as capping for a demolition site or as part of a remediation clean-cover system, are administered using CL:AIRE Dow:CoP Material Management Plans, written and managed in-house, then signed off by an independent qualified person.

Pre-construction Strategy Reviews

For Principal Contractors, developers and landowners of brownfields sites, quantifying ground-risk can be a highly complex subject, often with uncapped potential costs.

Our comprehensive and transparent service for accurate quantification of the buried ground-risk and the costs required to resolve them, include; 3D terrain modelling, in-house land-surveying (traditional or drone), site investigation reviews, writing and/or reviewing of remediation strategies, and Value Engineering proposals.

Contaminated Soil

Using waste classification techniques for offsite treatment or landfill disposal, our large fleet hauls and disposes of various materials.

This includes inert, non-hazardous, hazardous, WAC failures, ACM’s, invasive species and general waste.

This is often done as part of a bulk earthworks or remediation project, but due to the variety of tipping locations at our disposal we often work as a stand-alone collect-and-dispose contractor.

Landfill Reinstatement

We undertake landfill capping works including clay or membrane liners and cell creation.

Value Engineering

Pre-contract tender reviews identify cost-saving opportunities for our clients. Value engineering can include; altering of levels to change muck-balances, reduction of stone depths with specialist membranes, modification/encapsulation of existing materials, reduction of clean-cover depths and accurate sequence reviews.
