World Mental Health Day

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. It is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’.

We understand the importance of promoting positive mental health and we use a range of resources including our SharePoint health and wellbeing page, Westfield portal, the NFDC Mental Health Hub and The Lighthouse Club Charity ‘Help Inside the Hard Hat’ campaign. We recently incorporated the 24-hour helpline into our livery.

We also raise awareness through regular newsletters and have purchased an online learning platform with modules for mental health awareness training.

Victoria Pickard is our Group SHEQ Advisor and focuses on occupational health. She is passionate about promoting mental health in general, the importance of talking and helping those who are struggling.

“We are working to break down the stigma of mental health problems, which can be particularly challenging in a male-dominated environment like the construction industry. The ‘macho’ culture can encourage men to turn to poor coping mechanisms and may prevent them from speaking up and seeking help. We want to encourage open conversations and offer support to those who need it.

Need help? 24/7 Helpline for immediate support or request a call or email.
