Rainton Construction worked collaboratively with Wilmott Dixon as part of the extensive regeneration of the Baltic Quarter of Gateshead. Together, we are ensuring positive outcomes for the client. We were awarded North East Works Partner of the Year and Highly Commended for Sustainability at the Wilmott Dixon Supply Chain Awards 2023 in recognition of our commitment to partnership.

This project is a great example of how value can be created through collaborative partnerships as we work on a crucial piece of the Newcastle Gateshead Quays infrastructure. We have received positive feedback and our team have been recognised for going above and beyond, taking pride in their work and continued commitment to health, safety and quality.

Scope of works

  • Reinforced concrete foundations and walls
  • Ground floor slab
  • Waterproofing/Gas proofing
  • External works
  • Drainage including bypass separator tank, attenuation tank and flow control manholes

MGL Earthworks also supported this project through spoil removal from site and installation of a piling mat. Surfacing was undertaken by our in-house team and materials are provided by Tynedale Roadstone. The team surfaced half of the road to provide better access and a cleaner storage area for materials.

Our approach has been underpinned by sustainable practices and driving social value to enhance opportunities for local people. We continue to support the client’s ‘Now or Never Sustainability Strategy’ by investing in environmental projects to balance out our carbon footprint. For a planned period within the programme, we have offset 27 tCO2e through verified carbon reduction projects and planting tees in North East, helping to combat climate change and sustain our environment for future generations.

To align with National Apprenticeships and maximise on social value we welcomed students and teachers from Derwentside College the site to learn more about the project and our involvement and to inspire the future generation to progress a career in the construction industry.

The multi-story car park is part of ongoing developments within the Baltic Business quarter and highlights Gateshead Council’s intent to develop and support the Gateshead and wider area business community and general population. We are proud to be part of the project which ensure positive outcomes for local people.
