Framework for Highway Surfacing Works

Since 2013 Rainton Construction has been the incumbent contractor for delivery of highway surfacing requirements throughout Newcastle.

Our scope of works consists of the planing and reinstatement of surface and binder course, including all necessary traffic management and road marking reinstatement requirements. We have also demonstrated the capability to deliver a wide range of works including inlay patching, full reconstruction, footways, cycleways and proprietary products are provided by Tynedale Roadstone including our Plastipave® product range.

To date we have successfully completed some 496 surfacing schemes and miscellaneous patching works across the City, since we commenced the contract.

We have demonstrated the successful delivery of surfacing works throughout a range of working environments in the city, with locations including the Great North Road, Kingston Park Road, Barrack Road, John Dobson Street, Brunton Park, Cowgate Roundabout, Tyne Bridge, Scotswood Road, Central Gateway and West Road, among others.

This also included the Killingworth Road and Haddricks Mill Junction Improvements schemes. This is a North East radial route into Newcastle City Centre, with two roundabouts within approximately 100 yards of each other, and seven access and egress points. We worked in close liaison with Newcastle City Council to plan and deliver planing and resurfacing works on this complex stretch of highway network.

A five-way traffic light head system was installed by Roadsafe, our traffic management Supply Chain Partner in close liaison with Newcastle City Council and ourselves, to enable works to be undertaken without road closure.

We laid over 5,000 tonnes of bituminous materials in several work phases. The final four-week phase included working off peak, twilight and night shifts for continuous progress to completion.
