MGL Group donates defibrillator to Stockton Riverside College

MGL Group has housed a defibrillator at Stockton Riverside College, strengthening our commitment to social responsibility in Stockton and enhancing our partnership with local heart charity, Red Sky Foundation.

Collaborating with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, MGL Demolition has demolished the Castlegate Shopping Centre, clearing the way for Stockton Waterfront, an innovative urban park. The new development will safeguard the High Street, attract businesses, and drive footfall. However, the project isn’t just about physical transformation; it’s also about fostering a positive social impact.

Our social value commitments include employee volunteering and donations to support diverse communities through the Amal Project Teesside. Installing the defibrillator aligns with our dedication to enhancing community wellbeing.

Director Gillian Reader and Joint Chief Executive Dave Elliott met with the Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, Founder of Red Sky Foundation, Sergio Petrucci MBE and from Stockton Riverside College, Executive Principal Lesley Graham and Group Site Manager Gareth Davies, to see firsthand how this vital medical device will support local people and contribute towards creating healthier, safer and more resilient communities.

We have pledged two defibrillators following the Lobster Ball at Hardwick Hall. The other piece of life-saving equipment has been sited at the Grange Day Centre in Throckley, near our asphalt facility in Newburn, Newcastle. We are proud to support the charity’s mission to help save every heartbeat.

We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to this kind of donation. We are progressing plans to unlock Teesdale’s potential through a social care and health zone, improving connectivity between Thornaby and a transformed Stockton Town Centre. Community initiatives like this are hugely important to serve this area in the future. While we hope the life-saving equipment never needs to be used, it’s reassuring for those across the Borough to know that it’s available in an emergency.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Here at Stockton Riverside College, we of course welcomed the opportunity to have a defibrillator installed on site. We value the important part the college has to play in our surrounding community and to have this potentially lifesaving device available on our premises will be reassuring, not just to our students and staff but, to the whole community and visitors to the local area. We offer our sincere thanks to all those involved including MGL Group, Red Sky Foundation, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, and McVickers Electrical Contractors Ltd for installation. Having the defibrillator on site will hopefully offer an opportunity to raise awareness among our students, giving them greater confidence if needed to respond to an emergency.
