Inspiring Future Careers at Stockton Sixth Form College

MGL Group’s Social Value Manager, Greg Chapman, recently spent the day at Stockton Sixth Form College, speaking with Year 12 and Year 13 students about careers in construction and civil engineering.

During the sessions, students gained a better understanding of the opportunities available across the industry. Greg talked through the different routes into construction, from apprenticeships and vocational training to university pathways, helping students see which options might suit them and how they could get started.

He also shared practical advice on the skills and qualities employers look for. Teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and a strong work ethic are key skills construction employers look for. Students are encouraged to start building these skills early in their careers as they plan their next steps. Drawing on his own experience, Greg helped bring the industry to life, showing the wide variety of jobs that are available within the construction industry.
