MGL Demolition is supporting plans to transform Stockton High Street with the Castlegate Shopping Centre and Swallow Hotel being demolished. Stockton has high vacancy rates in retail due to outdated and oversized units, leading to a need for change. The town’s shopping centres are spread out and public consultation showed support for repurposing the sites.
Demolition work began in September 2022. The complete removal of the Swallow Hotel has taken place and the building has been cleared.
Demolition is continuing towards the Millennium Footbridge and will move north up the shopping centre.
Work will start on the removal of Spencer Market Hall soon.
Demolition is expected be completed by the summer.
