History

A company built on a strong and successful foundation

MGL Group was founded in 1971 by Alan and Sheila Davison. Starting with just one employee and operating from a second-hand caravan, the company initially delivered small civil engineering projects. Today, we’ve proudly grown into one of the North of England’s largest privately-owned construction companies, with a team of over 500 passionate professionals delivering a comprehensive range of services that reshape the built environment.

Our legacy is rooted in family values, and we remain true to our founding ethos: a commitment to high-quality workmanship and building lasting partnerships with our clients and local supply chains. Safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. Beyond our core services, we’re proud to support the communities where we work and where our people live, always guided by a simple principle: doing the right thing and building a stronger, more sustainable future.

Adapting to customer and sector needs

As a Durham-based contractor with facilities in Newburn, Newcastle, and Barton, North Yorkshire, plus quarries across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, we continually evolve to meet changing market demands while staying true to the core values that define our business.

Backed by a robust fleet of plant and machinery, our strength lies in our people. We’re committed to investing in their growth and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
