MGL Group Supports STEM Event

Our Social Value team was delighted to support Destination STEM Hopetown for the second consecutive year, helping young people explore exciting career opportunities in construction, engineering, and the wider built environment.

Over two days , Hopetown Darlington welcomed over 5,000 primary and secondary school pupils from across the Tees Valley and Darlington area, for hands-on activities, demonstrations, and conversations with local employers. The event brought together schools, businesses, and industry professionals to demonstrate how science, technology, engineering, and maths are applied in the real world and to highlight the vital role these skills play across a wide range of careers.

The team enjoyed meeting pupils, answering their questions, and giving them an insight into life at MGL Group. We highlighted the varied career paths available in our industry, from civil engineering and demolition to surveying, plant operations, and a range of technical and professional roles. We also discussed the different ways young people can start their careers. Apprenticeships, technical qualifications, and further education can all provide routes into construction and engineering, creating opportunities for people with different skills and interests.

Speaking directly with people already working in the industry can help bring these careers to life. It gives pupils the chance to ask questions, explore roles they may not have considered, and understand the skills employers seek. Events such as Destination STEM are an effective way to spark curiosity, challenge perceptions of the construction industry, and help young people understand the opportunities available to them in the future.
