Amazon NCL1

Rainton Construction was appointed to complete the 278 works for the new Amazon warehouse in Follingsby Park. The work included a new entrance to the development and road improvements to the business park.

Scope of works

• Diversion of existing road to improve traffic flow
• Installation of new footpath
• Widen existing footpath by 1m
• Working with subcontractors to install new traffic signals
• Fencing and soft landscaping
• Re-aligning existing bell mouth to allow HGV access
• Installing a queue warning system
• Supply and installation of traffic signs and street lighting columns
• Excavate and lay ducting for electrical works
• Liaising with Local Authority for successful adoption of the highways

Known as NCL1 (Amazon’s buildings are named after the nearest airport), was the company’s third warehouse in the North East and has created 1,300 permanent jobs. It is around 546,000 sq ft in size, the equivalent to six-and-a-half football pitches with 11km of conveyor belts to transports good around.
