Rainton Construction played a key role as part of the project team that constructed Blyth Bebside Station, part of the Northumberland Line. Working in a fast-paced live rail environment, our teams utilised their in-house expertise to build the essential structures now serving thousands of passengers each day.
Supported by MGL Earthworks, we undertook critical enabling, earthworks, and civil engineering packages across three key sites:
- Blyth Bebside Station: Rail-environment enabling works, large-scale earthworks, and the installation of fully accessible platforms and associated infrastructure.
- Seaton Delaval Station: Essential engineering and enabling works to support the new station.
- Palmersville Underpass: Complex civil engineering to accommodate the line’s route and improve local connectivity.
Since reopening in December 2024, the Northumberland Line has supported more than 1,000,000 passenger journeys, reconnecting communities with rail services for the first time in 60 years. Hitting this massive milestone just over a year after the opening of the line is a fantastic achievement.
The overwhelmingly positive response demonstrates just how vital improved transport links are for the region. We are incredibly proud of our teams for completing these complex works safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Congratulations to everyone involved in realising this landmark project. Together, we’ve helped build a lasting legacy that will benefit the North East for generations to come.
