Westlea Road, Seaham
Project Overview
Rainton Construction recently completed a sustainable resurfacing project on Westlea Road in Seaham. The scheme utilised Net Zero Asphalt, a revolutionary material that captures and stores carbon dioxide, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint. This innovative approach, combined with efficient planning and execution, minimised disruption to local traffic while prioritising safety and sustainability.
Sustainability
The Net Zero Asphalt used in this project is produced in-house by Tynedale Roadstone and incorporates a carbon-negative aggregate developed by Low Carbon Materials (LCM). This innovative material permanently removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by capturing and storing carbon dioxide. This specific scheme sequestered 18,240kg of CO2e, significantly reducing the project’s environmental impact.
Summary
This project exemplifies Rainton Construction’s commitment to sustainable practices and innovative solutions. Our partnership with Durham County Council and LCM is essential for driving innovation and environmental responsibility in County Durham and beyond. We are proud to be paving the way to net zero emissions.
