Elvet Hill Road, Durham City
Project Overview
Rainton Construction completed emergency planing and re-laying work on the Tyne Bridge, a major gateway to the city used by tens of thousands of vehicles each day. The patch repairs were completed at short notice and efficiently undertaken to minimise the need for lane closures. This supported the wider project of restoring the bridge and enabled refurbishment works to move on to the main deck.
Challenges
Due to the busy city centre location, overnight road closures were implemented to minimise any disruption to local traffic. The team coordinated with local authorities and managed the tight schedule to ensure work was completed and the road was reopened.
Safety and Sustainability
The project prioritised safety by implementing strict traffic management measures and ensuring all work was carried out during low-traffic hours. Additionally, sustainable practices, such as using locally sourced materials and recycling waste, were employed to minimise the environmental impact.
Summary
Rainton Construction’s meticulous planning and delivery ensured minimal disruption. We are proud to have enabled the restoration works and look forward to seeing the iconic structure returned to its former glory.
