Clifton Road Car Park

Project Overview

Rainton Construction carried out surfacing to a new temporary parking facility for Darlington Railway Station on the former cattle market site.

It will create 467 parking spaces and is a short-term measure to enable the Darlington Station Improvements scheme to proceed. Temporary parking will be closed once the new multi-storey car park is fully operational.

Scope of Works

The scope of works was as follows:

• Access road and car park resurfacing, supplying, laying and regulating Dense Binder Course, aggregate, warm mix asphalt and Close Grade Surface Course.
• Footway Resurfacing, supplying, laying and regulating Dense Binder Course, aggregate, warm mix asphalt and Dense Surface Course.
• Installation of a temporary speed table using a closed grade surface course, warm mix asphalt, and a dense binder course, with a 20mm nominal aggregate size for raised levels only.

Sustainability

This project has provided local benefits and contributed to sustainable practices. All materials supplied by Tynedale Roadstone are from our Barton asphalt facility. The equivalent of 183,023 plastic milk cartons and the residue of 5,965 tyres were diverted from landfills, and 40.9 tonnes of CO2 were saved during this project.
