Project Overview

MGL Demolition safely demolished Anson and Hudson House, two 92-unit high-rise buildings in Thornaby. This project cleared the way for a new housing development.

Challenges

Demolishing these 12-storey buildings presented significant challenges due to their proximity to residential areas, a busy road, and a primary school. Stringent safety protocols were maintained throughout the project. A phased demolition approach was adopted, beginning with high-reach excavation to reduce building heights. A short-arm excavator was then employed for greater control.

Minimising disruption to the local community was paramount. Controlled demolition techniques reduced noise and dust emissions.

Sustainability and Social Value

The project strongly emphasised safety and minimising environmental impact. By adopting sustainable practices, demolition waste was retained and crushed on-site, reducing the project’s environmental footprint.

We partnered with the nearby primary school, delivering a safety session to pupils and providing funding for nursery equipment, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the local community.

Summary

The successful demolition of Anson and Hudson House has enabled redevelopment. This project showcases MGL Demolition’s expertise in safely and efficiently handling complex demolition projects.
