MGL Demolition has made a strategic investment in a cutting-edge Soil Wash Plant at our Newburn site in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Now fully operational, this advanced Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste recycling facility processes up to 160 tonnes of material per hour. Designed and engineered by wet processing specialists CDE, the plant transforms soil-bound construction waste into clean, high-quality recycled aggregates and premium washed sand.
The system screens out large debris, scrubs away stubborn soils and contaminants, and uses precision classification to produce optimally graded sand suitable for concrete, asphalt, and other construction applications. It also generates a range of recycled aggregates in various sizes, ensuring a consistent supply of sustainable materials for the region.
Sustainability is central to this operation. Thanks to a high-capacity thickener, the plant recovers up to 90% of the water used, and converts fine silts into a dry, manageable filter cake, minimising waste and maximising resource recovery. By recycling and reusing materials locally, we’re achieving significant carbon savings and making real progress towards net zero emissions by 2050.
Repurposing 500,000 tonnes of material through the wash plant can save more than 84,000 tonnes of CO₂ every year.
We also offer cost-effective, competitive rates for the disposal of inert and non-hazardous soils, helping reduce reliance on virgin resources and supporting the circular economy.
Recycled aggregates are now available for purchase.
